eBay closes Depop purchase and keeps the youth fashion marketplace as a distinct brand

eBay Inc. said on July 30, 2026 that it has completed its acquisition of Depop, a consumer to consumer fashion marketplace with a Gen Z and Millennial customer base, according to an eBay press release. Fashion is already a more than $10 billion annual GMV category for eBay, the company said.

eBay said Depop will operate as a complementary business and retain its brand, platform, customer experience, and culture. eBay CEO Jamie Iannone said the deal strengthens eBay's C2C value proposition and expands reach with the next generation of buyers and sellers. Depop CEO Peter Semple said joining eBay is a new chapter while the marketplace continues to deliver the experience its users value.

Closing the Depop purchase turns a long announced platform consolidation into an operating reality for fashion recommerce. The strategic question is no longer whether eBay wants youth fashion resale, but whether Depop can keep its discovery led community while using eBay scale in trust, payments, and logistics.

For competing peer to peer apps, the combination raises the floor on customer acquisition and inventory density in Gen Z fashion. Operators should watch whether Depop stays product independent or whether shared tools start to blur the two marketplaces.

ThredUp schedules August 5 release of second quarter 2026 results

ThredUp said it will report second quarter 2026 financial results on August 5, 2026, according to the company's investor relations news release dated July 8, 2026.

The scheduled release is the next formal update from the public managed resale operator after its earlier 2026 quarterly disclosures.

Earnings week for ThredUp is a checkpoint for managed resale and resale as a service demand. The useful read for operators is not only headline GMV, but whether take rate, supply intake, and brand partnerships are improving together.

A clean print would support the thesis that infrastructure heavy resale can scale with discipline. A soft print would push more attention toward peer to peer models and brand owned channels.
